Your dog brings you ‘gifts’…

If your dog wants to play, they may drop their toys at your feet. But this act can be a way to show you how much they love and appreciate you. If they could speak out loud and use human language, as we do, they would say “I’m so grateful to you and I want you to have this.”

Your horse nickers or whinnies when they see you…

When your horse makes these common sounds, it means they are excited to see you, and often when they hear or see you coming, they will run to the fence to be there to greet you. If they could speak out loud and use human language, as we do, they would say “I’m so happy to see you and can’t wait to spend some time together.”

Your cat purrs when they come over and lie down next to you…

Purring can indicate different things depending on the situation. However, it is widely believed that purring is a way of your cat self-medicating. If they are at the vet’s office and perhaps stressed, purring can help to calm them down. When at home when they are already relaxed and come over, flop down next to you and start purring, this is a sign of contentment.  If they could speak out loud and use human language, as we do, they would say “I’m very peaceful and calm right now, and please keep petting me.”

All of these behaviors are a type of exchange between you and your animal. And another way to help, and remind you that you are already communicating with your own animals.
