Blowing in their ears…
Talking baby talk…
Hugging them…
Staring at them…

While they may not really enjoy any of these things, there is ongoing evidence that hugging your dog too long can makes them extremely uncomfortable. While hugging your dog may make you feel good, it may cause them to feel as though they’re being restrained and that may lead to a feeling of great discomfort.

Hugging may also create a sense of confinement for your dog and they may actually find your behavior threatening. Dogs have an acute sense of personal space, and while a human may find a hug comforting, your dog may view hugging as more of an invasion.

Every dog is unique and may respond differently to various types of human interactions. Understanding and recognizing your dog’s individual needs and preferences is an essential part of forming a positive and equally fulfilling relationship with your treasured family member.
